Not since the “blue dress” debate of 2015 has social media been so torn — and America been momentarily distracted from reality — by a question: is it a cougar or a dog?
It started when a cougar — or maybe it was a dog — took a hike during a TV reporter’s live report in Utah.
ICYMI: It looks like a #cougar walked past @KUTVMorgan this morning in her live shot! #cougar #utah pic.twitter.com/aebVk6VV4f

Hard to tell from the video, of course, which is why the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources was called in to investigate.
We're looking into this right now. From the video, it’s difficult to tell if the animal is a cougar or a dog. We're going to visit the scene and look for tracks or any other signs to help positively identify the animal. https://t.co/mCgdWM2hOQ

Using special powers, the DWR agents suggested the paw prints indicated dog.
CANINE OR COUGAR? This is the paw print found in the mud after my live shot. @UtahDNR says the foothills are know for cougar sightings AND the way it walked it could have easily been mistaken for one. BUT they are 99% sure it was a DOG that stole the show! pic.twitter.com/KbTxFMVkqT

The suggestion was confirmed by the owner of the dog..
We've all been duped by a DOG!
Utah DWR believe it’s a dog based on the paw prints AND the owner just sent us this photo! 🙂 pic.twitter.com/zZxFKeBBjU— Chase Thomason (@ChaseThomason) October 3, 2018
Now back to the news.
