There are some moments that seem uniquely Minnesotan. This is one of them.
It’s happening today in Garrison, Minn., where several dozen non-cubicle-farm-bound individuals add some color to the landscape in the annual kite-ski crossing of Lake Mille Lacs and back, a 28-mile trip.
Competitive events are scheduled today through the weekend.
“We’ll kite for miles and miles and miles for fun, but you turn around once in a while to give it a rest,” Nick Ruchti tells the St. Cloud Times. “To go 14 miles straight, your legs are burning and you’re just waiting to get to the other end to turn around.”
It still sounds better than being stuck at work on a March day.
Here’s last year’s crossing.
