It was Gary Eichten night at Target Field Friday night as the Twins honored the MPR legend by inviting him to throw out the official first pitch. And, not surprisingly, Eichten delivered like a pro.

A son of Massachusetts, he was a news editor 1992-1998, created the MPR News regional website in 1999, invented the popular Select A Candidate, started several blogs, and every day lamented that his Minnesota Fantasy Legislature project never caught on.
The Saint Paul Saints are as close as they’ve ever been to getting their wish a taxpayer-subsidized stadium in downtown Saint Paul. This week, Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman sent a $27 million dollar request to state officials for bonding money for the stadium, and the early line seemed to be it had a good chance of making the cut.
So an announcement today about the Saints latest irreverent marketing gimmick probably had some of the politicians who’ve stuck their neck out for the team cringing.
